These 2” embroidered patches feature my design of flying common eastern fireflies, also known as big dipper fireflies. They produce large J-shaped flashes and are some of the best known fireflies of the eastern United States.
To adhere these patches to your garment, you will need:
- An iron
- An ironing board or other heat-resistant flat surface
- Your patch
- A thin cotton cloth (e.g., tea towel or washcloth)
- A clean garment
To apply a patch, you will need to:
- Lay your clean garment on a flat surface.
- Turn your iron on and set the temperature to the correct setting for your fabric; ensure that the steam setting is turned off and that there is no water in the iron’s reservoir.
- Place the patch face-up on the garment and cover it with a thin cotton cloth.
- Press down on the garment, moving the iron in a circular motion for 10-30 seconds.
- Allow the patch to cool, then flip the garment inside out.
- Cover the patch area with a thin cotton cloth and press with the iron for 10-30 seconds.
- Allow the patch to cool and check to see if the patch has adhered; if not, repeat steps 3-6.
While the iron-on adhesive should be strong enough to adhere to your garment for 50+ washes, sewing it on will make it even more secure.
These patches are perfect for lovers of oddities and curiosities, entomology, and insects.
